Live Nation Entertainment, a large event promoter and venue operator that recently hosted the Guns N’ Roses concert at Fenway Park, is requiring artists and audience members to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or show proof of a negative test starting Oct. 4.
“Vaccines are going to be your ticket back to shows, and as of October 4th we will be following the model we developed for Lollapalooza and requiring this for artists, fans and employees at Live Nation venues and festivals everywhere possible in the US,” Michael Rapino, president and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, told NBC News.
Employees of Live Nation will also be required to be vaccinated against COVID, NBC reported.
The entertainment company said the policy was “designed to encourage vaccination” adding that 90% of those who attended Lollapalooza, a Chicago music festival, were fully vaccinated under the same rules.
“Twelve percent of fans said Lolla was actually their reason for getting vaccinated — which is a huge number with 400k attendees throughout the weekend,” the spokesperson told NBC.
Health officials reportedly suggested that the festival, which had about 385,000 attendees resulted in around 203 cases, according to the Associated Press.
“Nothing unexpected here,” Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said at a news conference. “No sign of a ‘superspreader event’. But clearly, with hundreds of thousands of people attending Lollapalooza we would expect to see some cases.”
AEG Presents, which hosts the Coachella Music and Arts Festival said on Thursday it will require proof of vaccination as well for those eligible for the shot.
