TEXARKANA, Ark. — During a regular meeting Monday, the city Board of Directors will consider minor changes to the boundaries of the downtown entertainment district, where open containers of alcohol are allowed outdoors.
The most significant change would include land leased by the city from Union Pacific Railroad on the south side of Front Street “as it has often been part of festivals and lends itself to events downtown,” according to a summary published with the meeting’s agenda. The boundary would also move to the north side of East Third Street to allow for businesses that want to operate there, as well as to the center line of North State Line Avenue.
The city Planning Commission recommends the changes, and the police and fire chiefs do not object.
The Board will also consider a request to rezone land at 1400 Dudley St. to allow an annex to a childcare facility for after-school care. The Planning Commission recommends the measure.
Public Works Director Tyler Richards will presentation on an ongoing study of Nix Creek drainage, and the Board will vote by consent to approve purchase of chemicals for wastewater treatment.
The agenda includes a citizen communication time during which members of the public may address the Board on any topic for up to five minutes each.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 216 Walnut St.
