Two years ago, the owners of a popular Iowa spot for games, music, food, and drinks were making plans to add additional locations in other cities and states. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed their plans, but they’ve reached the launch point.
Smash Park, whose flagship location opened in West Des Moines in 2018, is franchising the business and preparing to open another location just over an hour east, in Pella. It will open sometime in 2022, but that’s just the beginning.
Their Facebook page describes Smash Park as
Iowa’s premier social entertainment venue with chef-created street food, signature cocktails & craft beer. Enjoy pickleball, countless games, and live entertainment in any of our public spaces including Iowa’s Largest Patio or the 21+ Paddle Club!
According to the Ames Tribune, there are a ton of games, including bags, bocce ball, pickleball, ping pong, and shuffleboard at the 47,000 square-foot Smash Park in West Des Moines. It also has a bar, restaurant, and live music events. While the Pella location will be a bit smaller initially, future plans include both miniature golf and sand volleyball.
Along with the Pella location, Smash Park has four others planned for opening, in major metropolitan areas, in the next two years. Smash Park will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Omaha, Nebraska, Phoenix, Arizona, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
This sounds like an absolute blast with, literally, something for everyone. Hopefully, another franchisee here in the corridor will take a long look at one of these. Something tells me it would work. How couldn’t it? As I said, there seems to be something for everyone.
