Evenings With Enrique

NEW ORLEANS (press release) – It’s back! Guests of all ages may safely enjoy viewing outdoor historic sculptures, a garden tour, food and entertainment every Wednesday in April in The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Botanical Garden (NOBG) to celebrate the bi-annual event “Evenings with Enrique.” This season’s series is every Wednesday in April, beginning April 7. Throughout the year, every Wednesday’s regular admission/ daytime admission is free to Louisiana residents, courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

During “Evenings with Enrique,” NOBG will safely welcome visitors into The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden to view the sculptures under enhanced lighting and fire baskets suspended from the branches of the live oak trees while enjoying music from local Latin artists. Guests are invited to purchase mojitos and food from the “Kitchen in the Garden.” Additional beverages will be available for purchase as well.

Sculptor Enrique Alférez was a Mexican-American artist known for his art-deco work. He was active during the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and his sculptures can still be found throughout New Orleans, including Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition, and City Park. In October 2015, the NOBG unveiled The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden, an 8,000-sq.-ft.-park featuring Alférez’s sculptures set within sweeping footpaths surrounded by lush tropical flowers and shrubs.

In addition to the special programming inside The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden, NOBG will offer yoga on the lawn and meditation in the Japanese Garden during the extended hours.

Guests are encouraged to practice social distancing and are required to wear a facial covering.
