Celebrity Plastic Surgery: The ‘Fox Eye’ Is Trending Among Celebrities – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

It’s no secret that celebrities often turn to plastic surgery so they can improve their looks. One cosmetic procedure that has been taking off in Hollywood is the fox eye. Here’s what Dr. K. Roxanne Grawe shared about the procedure.

K. Roxanne Grawe: Fox eye, also known as cat-eye or designer eye, is the term describing a trendy look where the outer canthus (outer corner of the eye) is higher than the inner canthus (inner corner of the eye). The lateral (outer) eyebrow is then lifted, giving the eye an ‘almond shape.’

Women have been doing this with makeup for years by tweezing our eyebrows to microblade or pencil in the outer eyebrow higher and narrower and using eyeliner to create a visual sweep upward to the corner of the eye.

KGR: As we age, the outer canthus droops and becomes lower than the inner canthus. The outer brow starts to drop, and we have more skin hanging on the upper eyelid. The fox eye, though, gives the eye a lifted, sophisticated, and youthful look. Plus, it only takes a few beautiful, major celebrities to do something to make the trend a must-have for everyone!

CS: Who are these key celebrities that may have the Fox Eye procedure?

KGR: Judging by recent photos, where their eyes look more lifted, some celebrities that may have had the procedure are Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande, Kendall Jenner, and Megan Fox.

KGR: There are a few ways to get this look. While some procedures can be done in the office in 30 minutes without downtime, other ways are more permanent and require surgery. The office procedure involves a combination of Botox, filler, and PDO (Polydioxanone) threads.

Botox is injected into the eyebrow’s depressors (corrugator, procerus– muscles in the glabella and the orbicularis oculi–the muscle that helps you squeeze your eyelid shut). The Botox injection allows the muscles to relax and raises your brow, especially at the outer brow. This can get rid of the 11 lines, commonly known as “crow’s feet,” and raise your brow in a subtle and natural-looking way. Botox lasts three to four months.

Filler, typically hyaluronic acid, can be injected above the eyebrow or at the lateral hairline to pull the lateral brow upward. Fillers can last up to two years. This lift is subtle and likely needs to be done in combination with other techniques.

PDO threads are made of a special suture material with small barbs. It is known as a “lifting thread.” The outer eyelid and outer eyebrow are numbed, and the threads are placed, resulting in the skin lifting upward. These threads dissolve over three to nine months. There may be some minor swelling and minor bruising, but overall, it is a quick procedure.

Brow Lift – A lateral brow lift involves an incision inside the hairline on both sides. The brows are then lifted with sutures below the skin. This surgery has minimal downtime and about a week of swelling. A lateral brow lift lasts around five years.

Upper Blepharoplasty – also known as upper eyelid lift. This procedure removes loose skin in the upper eyelid. It can be done with local anesthesia (numbing injections) or under general anesthesia. The scar is within the natural eyelid crease, so it cannot be seen. With a lateral canthopexy, the lateral canthus (outer corner of the eye) is moved dramatically, sweeping the eye upward. This technique causes the most permanent change of all the procedures.

These procedures vary in cost depending on location. In the United States, the average prices are:

  • Botox: $10-18/unit – typically between $140 to $600 per treatment
  • Filler: $500-$800/syringe – eyelift treatments can be between $350-800
  • PDO thread eyelift: $100-$5,000 – average is around $1,200
  • Lateral brow lift: $3,400
  • Upper eyelid lift: $2,000- 7,000

CS: How to know if you are a good candidate and which procedure is right for you?

KGR: As long as you are healthy and do not have any risk factors preventing you from having this procedure, you are a fairly good candidate, especially if that area is causing discomfort. Your age and having a heavier face may make it more difficult to achieve this celebrity fox eye result.

Most people should consider a combination of these procedures to get the most dramatic result. The best way to know what is best for you is to consult with a plastic surgeon or injector who has photos of their work so you can see their typical results.
