Celebrity friends show their support for Meghan – harpersbazaar.com

Celebrities and friends of Meghan have publicly shown their support for her following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Dozens of her high-profile friends, former colleagues and supporters have taken to social media to speak out in solidarity with her, after she opened up in an emotional interview discussing the realities she faced during her time as a senior member of the British royal family.

The interview, which will air tonight (8 March) on ITV at 9pm for UK viewers, details Meghan’s experiences of “stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood and philanthropic work” plus “how she is handling life under intense public pressure”.

Since it first aired in the US last night, Meghan’s friends have spoken out in support.

Tennis star Serena Williams posted a powerful statement following Meghan’s interview with Winfrey, which detailed the “sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of colour”.

Taking to Twitter, Meghan’s close friend wrote how Meghan teaches her every day to be “truly noble”.

“Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced,” she said. “I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of colour to minimise us, to break us down and demonise us.

“We must recognise our obligation to decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimisation are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.

“I want Meghan’s daughter, my daughter and your daughter to live in a society that is driven by respect. Keep in your memory the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things, there is no law.”

Meghan’s friend Jessica Mulroney showed her support as she shared a sweet memory of the pair at dinner enjoying wine.

She wrote: “I don’t know that anyone has ever had to deal with the pressure, the politics and the press like this woman. In the face of it all, I have never seen her waver from kindness, empathy and love.”

Meghan has been friends with Mulroney for several years and her three children were part of the couple’s royal wedding in May 2018.

Meghan’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer posted a lengthy caption that highlights how caring and supportive the duchess really is.

“She’s taken my son in as her own. I can’t tell you the value of having another working mother I can lean on when with the pressures of visibility and child-rearing woes become overwhelming. She’s always been a safe harbour for me, someone I can fall apart in front of… and with,” Spencer wrote.

“There are some people who are so bright and exude such deep purpose that they change the molecules in the air simply through their being. She was all of this from the moment I met her fourteen years ago. And remains so to this day.”

Chrissy Teigen

“This Meghan Markle shit is hitting too close to home for me. These people won’t stop until she miscarries. Fucking stop it,” tweeted Teigen, who, like Meghan, recently suffered a miscarriage.

Meghan’s friend and former Suits co-star Patrick J Adams shared a lengthy Twitter thread on Friday ahead of the interview with Winfrey.

Adams explained how she found it hard to find her place in a “seemingly archaic and toxic” family dynamic.

He wrote: “She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name across the entire globe and began the difficult work of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can at best be described as complicated and at worst, seemingly archaic and toxic.”

“It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, click-baiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realised or understood and they would regret underestimating her.”
