Remember when lip fillers and Botox seemed taboo? In the early 2000s, celebrities especially seemed to be more guarded about revealing what types of cosmetic procedures they had done. These days, stars talk about their relationship with Botox and fillers just as they would talk about their favorite drugstore beauty products. And, the A-listers are not alone. According to Allergan, the company best known for making Botox and Juvéderm, 5.5 million people have received fillers within the past year alone.
“A youthful face has contours, high cheekbones and a well-defined jawline. As we age, the layers of the face start to change and we begin to lose this,” says Gabby Garritano, PA, founder and CEO of Ject, a boutique cosmetic and injectables spa in New York City. “Common areas of volume replacement include around the eyes, the temples, and cheeks, as well as the lips. Restoring the structure to these areas gives an immediate youthful appearance,” Garritano adds.
Nowadays, patients are going into the office for more than one treatment at a time! In 2019, Garritano says “millennials were two times more likely to start their injectables treatment with both neurotoxin and filler than their comparable 39 to 45-year-olds.” Curious to see which of your favorite celebs have been open about getting injectables (and which ones love it or regret it)? 1 Cindy Crawford
In 2015 Crawford told InStyle, “I’m not going to lie to myself, past a certain age, creams work on the texture of your skin but, in order to restore elasticity, all I can really count on is vitamin injections, Botox, and collagen.” She added, “I have a very simple, healthy life, which works miracles. I drink a lot of water, watch what I eat, and exercise…but I owe the quality of my skin to my cosmetic surgeon.”
2 Gwyneth Paltrow
When talking about cosmetic enhancements in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2013, Gwyneth said, “I’ve probably tried everything…I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy.” In 2020, however, she partnered with Xeomin, another anti-wrinkle injectable for frown lines. “Dealing with aging is a multi-layered experience,” she wrote on Instagram. “I take good care of my skin, hydrate and exercise, but sometimes a girl needs a little extra help. I was excited to try @xeominaesthetic (incobotulinumtoxinA) for my frown lines, it’s a uniquely purified anti-wrinkle injection that does not contain any unnecessary proteins. I am a big fan.”
3 Kim Kardashian
When it comes to skincare treatments, the Kardashians are very transparent about their tried and true. In season five of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (now 10 years ago), Kim tried Botox for the first time. She mostly tried it out of curiosity and to “get rid of [her] wrinkles.” Lo and behold, Kim had a bad reaction around the injection site, and said, “I’ll never do this again… at least, not until I’m 40.”
4 Anna Faris
In her 2017 memoir, Unqualified, Anna Faris uncovered that she always had an insecurity around her thin upper lip, and to hinder that insecurity, the actress “started getting lip injections” in 2000 when she was filming The House Bunny.“I started getting lip injections in my upper lip. I did it for a little bit and I noticed a small difference, but no one else ever said anything. I kept wondering if anybody else even noticed,” she said. She went on to disclose that the decision was “definitely not the right choice” for her.
5 Nicki Minaj
While Nicki Minaj hasn’t directly addressed getting injectables in person, she insinuated it in her and Big Sean’s “Dance (Ass)” song lyrics: “I don’t know man, I guess those ass shots wore off”.
6 Britney Spears
Britney unearthed some of her favorite skincare secrets when she was the covergirl for the InStyle January 2014 issue. Using her preferred surgeon, Dr. Kanodia, Spears disclosed that she tried out lip injections, and said it was “fun stuff.”
7 Nicole Kidman
In 2013, the forever youthful-looking Nicole Kidman rejoiced to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, “I can finally move my face again!” after dissolving Botox that had eliminated her ability to express her emotions. Suffice it to say, it was a one-and-done ordeal for her.
8 Wendy Williams
Wendy Williams is known for her transparency with her fans, so it’s no surprise that she got Botox in the morning and later shared every detail with her audience on The Wendy Williams Show. “This morning I got here at 6:30 for a little breakfast procedure,” she said at the start of the show. “Roll the tape!”
9 Kelly Ripa
When discussing her rationale for using Botox with her then Live co-host Michael Strahan, Kelly Ripa shared that people kept asking her ‘Are you okay? You look like you’re angry.’ Her response? “Then it’s time to get Botox.”
10 Courteney Cox
After famously getting fillers, Cox later decided to reverse them. “I’ve had all my fillers dissolved. I’m as natural as I can be. I feel better because I look like myself,” Cox told New Beauty in 2017. “I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do. Things are going to change. Everything’s going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake. You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles—they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend.”
11 Kaley Cuoco
When talking to Women’s Health in 2016, The Flight Attendant star revealed that she has had breast augmentation surgery, a nose job, and a round of fillers. “As much as you want to love your inner self, I’m sorry, you also want to look good,” she said. “I don’t think you should do it for a man or anyone else, but if it makes you feel confident, that’s amazing.”
12 Vanessa Williams
The trick to Botox is knowing your limits and not getting carried away. For Vanessa Williams, that means using it very sparingly. “As an actress I need to have expression in my face. But it doesn’t hurt. It works. But I think you should ask a lot of questions. Make sure you’re talking to a licensed dermatologist or plastic surgeon. You can even ask to see the vial first,” Williams told the Sun Sentinel.
“You know, the first time you see Wilhelmina in Ugly Betty, she is getting Botox in her office from her assistant Mark, which you absolutely should not do, by the way,” she added.
13 Brooke Shields
Shields disclosed that she tried Botox in her past, but told Ladies Home Journal that she is cautious about doing it again. “I want laser treatment, because I’m not a fan of my wrinkles. But I have to find someone with a light touch.”
14 Christie Brinkley
“Botox, the first time around, didn’t go so well,” Brinkley shared with New Beauty. “I actually started to feel depressed. My face lacked expression. I will never do it again in my forehead.” However, Brinkley did say she used Botox again— except this time on her neck.
15 Halle Berry
While Halle Berry hasn’t outright said she uses Botox, she told InStyle in 2013 that she believes that cosmetic enhancements are a personal decision: “I think that’s something everyone needs to decide for herself. I’m not going to preach about whether it is good or bad. What I don’t agree with is young people doing it,” she said.
16 Chrissy Teigen
Botox isn’t just for aesthetics. Teigen took to Twitter to talk about her “really, really bad pregnancy headaches” and being “thrilled to be cleared to do neck muscle Botox along with a crazy combo of Beta Blocker shots.”
Teigen also has used Botox for another medical condition: excessive sweating. “Botoxed my armpits. Truly best move I have ever made. I can wear silk again without soaking woohoo!” she shared in a video on her social media in 2019.
17 Katy Perry
Katy Perry squashed surgery rumors when she spoke to Refinery29 in 2018: “I haven’t had any. I’ve done lasers and got [filler] injections under my eyes for the hollowing; which I’d recommend for everyone who wants a solution for their dark circles, but all my assets are real,” she said.
18 Lisa Rinna
Lisa Rinna got lip fillers for the first time in 1988 at 25 years old. However, unlike Juvederm, which is temporary, she got permanent silicone injections. “In the beginning, it was great,” she recalls. But after about 10 years, the silicone started seeping throughout her lip and creating scar tissue that was “hard and bumpy, like peas.” She later tried cortisone shots to reduce the swelling, but instead, “it made them look worse,” Rinna told People.
Years later, Rinna opted to see Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Garth Fisher to remove some of the damaged tissue in her lips, creating a smoother more appealing smile. Rinna shared with People that she saw “a huge difference. My lip is back to being smooth!”
19 Jamie Lee Curtis
“I’ve done it all. I’ve had a little plastic surgery. I’ve had a little lipo. I’ve had a little Botox. And you know what? None of it works. None of it,” the actress told The Telegraph.
20 Khloe Kardashian
On a 2016 episode of her former talk show Kocktails With Khloe, Khloe admitted to having facial fillers dissolved. “My face was so f*cked I had to go and get this whole thing dissolved,” she said. “It did not work for me. I looked crazy, and I still think the effects are in there; I went to have it all dissolved like three times!”
21 Robin Wright
“Everybody f*cking does it,” Robin Wright told The Telegraph regarding Botox. “I suppose I can’t say ‘everybody’ because I don’t know for sure, but come on. It’s just the tiniest sprinkle of Botox twice a year. I think most women do 10 units, but that freezes the face and you can’t move it. This is just one unit, and it’s just sprinkled here and there to take the edge off… Perhaps it’s not wise to put that in a magazine? But I ain’t hiding anything.”
22 Linda Evangelista
“I was the first person to ever admit that I did Botox, and my Mom was upset,” Evangelista told Harper’s Bazaar. “I said, ‘Mom everybody does it,’ and she was like, ‘Yeah but they don’t say it.’ So if I was the first one to tell the truth about using it then, why would I lie about it now?”
23 Cardi B
In an interview with Mariah Carey for Interview Magazine, Cardi B said, “When I was 20, I went to the urban strip club, and in the urban strip clubs, you had to have a big butt. So I felt insecure about that. It took me back to high school. So I got my ass done. And then I felt super confident.”
24 Kim Catrall
It’s only fitting that the actress who portrayed Samantha Jones in Sex and the City is, like her character, a fan of Botox. In 2008, Cattrall told the Huffington Post that she used Botox to help get rid of “a crease between” her eyebrows.
25 Olivia Colman
Olivia Colman told the Sunday Times, “I have done Botox and I loved it.” But she didn’t reveal her Botox usage to her husband early on, instead saying, “I didn’t tell my husband and then for about six months he kept saying, ‘Hello, Pretty!’ and then I told him and he found it hilarious.”
26 Jenny McCarthy
“I’m an obvious Botox user,” Jenny McCarthy told Life & Style. “I tell everyone. I get Botox in my forehead. I just have my doctor do a little shot.”
27 Chloe Sevigny
For actress Chloe Sevingy, it’s all about keeping her frown lines out of site. “I think Botox is good,” Sevigny disclosed to Into the Gloss. “It’s just a preventative for my 11 lines, but also my derm, [Dr. Colbert], is very conservative because I’m an actress. ”
28 Kylie Jenner
Other than discussing lip injections a handful of times, Jenner has been pretty mum on her cosmetic procedures. In a 2016 Instagram story, she shared, “As of now, I only have lip fillers. But I’m also someone who says ‘never say never.’ If, down the line, I get to a point where I’m really uncomfortable with something on my body, I’m not against changing it.”
29 Jessica Simpson
Like her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson has dabbled with fillers. However, unlike Britney, Jessica was not a huge fan. When talking to Glamour in 2006, Jessica shared her experience with lip filler. “I had that Restylane stuff. It looked fake to me. I didn’t like that. But it went away in, like, four months. My lips are back to what they were. Thank God!”
30 Priyanka Chopra
In her newly released memoir, Unfinished, Chopra discussed the multiple corrective surgeries she had after a botched nasal polyp surgery in 2000. “I was dared to give an explanation for the obviously different nose, but I chose a course then that I’ve followed in all the years since,” Chopra said.
Many people speculate that she’s also gotten lip fillers, but Chopra herself hasn’t confirmed that. “I decided that there was a line I was going to draw in my life. I am an entertainer. That’s what I’ve signed on to do, and that’s what I love doing…but just because I’m a public person doesn’t mean everything about my life has to be public knowledge. I get to choose what I share and when I share it.”
