Boston will close some businesses and limit the size of indoor and outdoor gatherings for at least three weeks effective Wednesday, Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced Monday, to combat an increase in coronavirus cases and to keep hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.
Key Facts
Museums, movie theaters, gyms, organized tours, indoor event spaces and indoor recreational venues, such as bowling alleys and batting cages are among the businesses required to close.
Employers are “strongly encouraged” to allow employees to work remotely, if possible, although offices can remain open at 40% capacity.
Indoor dining can continue, but bar seating is banned unless the bar receives permission from the city’s licensing board.
Public and private indoor gatherings are limited to 10 people and outdoor gatherings have a 25-person limit.
Boston hospitals hit 90% capacity for adult non-surge intensive care unit beds as of December 12, the Boston Public Health Commission said in a statement about the new restrictions.
