Reddit Users Try To Identify Celebrities Who Defy Cancel Culture – The Blast

In light of the recent Dave Chappelle controversy over statements he made in his Netflix comedy special, “The Closer,” there has been a lot of talk about cancel culture and its role in the entertainment business.

In a world where every celebrity can be deemed problematic in some way, one Reddit user took to the Internet to ask the question “who’s that one celebrity that has like no haters?”

Although the thread was started five months ago, fans have been keeping up the responses over the past few months to create an impressive list of celebrities that don’t seem in danger of being canceled any time soon.

Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton is one of the most wholesome country singers and humanitarians around.

After becoming a success with her song “Jolene” in 1974, the 75-year-old Tennessee native was approached to act in films. Although she eventually began a long film career, Parton revealed that she turned down many roles at first because she wanted to be very careful with the way she was portrayed on screen.

“I think people know that I respect myself, and people usually respect people that respect themselves,” she explained. “But I would never even do any really heavy, serious love scenes, like even slobberin’ kissin’ scenes and all. I certainly wouldn’t do anything as outrageous as being naked. It’s fine for some people, if that’s what they wanna do, but I always think of my Mom and Dad and my people and the way I was brought up.”

Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek was the long-time host of the trivia game show “Jeopardy!” Trebek, unfortunately, passed away on November 8, 2020 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Considering how much drama and controversy has surrounded “Jeopardy!” in recent months, fans were thankful that Trebek provided the show with stability over his 37-season run.

However, Trebek was much more than a game show host. The humanitarian was often described as “boots on the ground” and would often visit countries to help underprivileged communities in whatever way he could. He even traveled to Ethiopia amidst a famine in the 1980s to do what he could to help.

Former CEO of World Vision Canada, Dave Toycen, said Alex “really cared about children,” adding, “In the midst of his busy schedule he always made the time for those who were struggling with poverty. He was incredibly supportive, and always saw the mission above himself.”

Mads Mikkelsen

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen became an instant sensation for his portrayal of “Hannibal” in the NBC TV series from 2013-2015.

Since then, he has gone on to star in “Druk,” “Riders of Justice,” and even has a role in the still unnamed “Indiana Jones 5.” He is also taking over the role of dark wizard Gellert Grindlewald in 2022’s “Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore.” He will be taking over the role from “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor Johnny Depp, who was removed from the role after Amber Heard’s 2018 op-ed alleging domestic violence.

Mikkelsen himself has not been embroiled in any scandals. Instead, the Internet is filled with images of him visiting with fans at a Sick Kids charity breakfast and other charity events. He has also won the Lauritzen Award for his work with the charity Refugee United.

Tom Hanks

Actor Tom Hanks just seems like an all-around nice guy. Hanks has starred in some incredible films over the years, including 1994’s “Forrest Gump,” 1998’s “Saving Private Ryan,” and 2000’s “Cast Away.”

One fan wrote, “Tom Hanks comes to mind. I forget where I read it, probably on Reddit, but someone described him as the only person who could drunkenly punch out a nun in an alley and the world would wonder, ‘D—-, what was wrong with that nun?’”

Some fans added to the comment to say that they felt that Hanks’ nice guy persona is just a front to hide a much darker persona, but that’s something for r/conspiracy to figure out.
