NoCap – “Outside (DJ Fetti Fee fast remix)”
There are random weeks of my life spent exclusively listening to South Florida fast music, and this is one of them. To make fast music, DJs (who usually come from Broward County) take new Southern rap singles and speed them up to a Chipmunk pace. The best ones are typically altered drastically, as a slow and moody Rod Wave deep cut will be turned into some shit that would make dollar bills rain in a strip club; fast remixes of NoCap have a similar effect. On its own, his latest single “Outside” is underwhelming, without the introspection or clever punchlines that make his best music click. But by locking into a throwaway line (“I ain’t tryna fuck/I’m just tryna get my dick sucked”), DJ Fetti Fee makes a forgettable phrase hypnotic and gives the song new life.
With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
