Fans will walk through a cornfield to Field of Dreams MLB game

Fans will walk through the corn to MLB’s new field in Dyersville for Thursday’s game at the “Field of Dreams” movie site.

If you build it, they will come. (They, in this case, is many, many celebrities.)

The Field of Dreams of movie fame is now a real ballpark in Dyersville, Iowa, with a nationally televised Major League Baseball regular season game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Tickets were scarce: People who wanted to attend entered a lottery for the chance to buy tickets in the specially constructed park, which seats 8,000 fans.

Ahead of the evening game, famous athletes, movie stars and reporters alike came to the field in excitement to watch the game, and experience their own larger-than-life moments in the cornfields of Iowa.

Former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez asked his Instagram followers if they had seen the movie as he walked into a cornfield. He wasn’t the only one taking a chance to travel the fields: David Ortiz, a former Red Sox designated hitter and first baseman, Kevin Burkhardt of Fox Sports and more came out to film Thursday morning in Dyersville.

Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, MLB Hall of Famer and FOX Sports analyst, even dressed as James Earl Jones’ movie character to film at the field.

Actors from the “Field of Dreams” movie also returned to movie site in Iowa. Kevin Costner, who played the protagonist in the baseball fantasy film, played a game of catch on the field with CBS This Morning ahead of the professionals taking the field.

Also joining the all-star roster off the field in Dyersville on Thursday: famous chef Guy Fieri, best known for his show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on Food Network. Fieri invited an all-American treat to be served specifically at the game: an Apple Pie Hot Dog. The food was inspired by the 1975 Chevrolet commercial, which featured lyrics “we love baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet.”
