Atlanta Restaurants: New Entertainment Venue and Indoor-Outdoor Bar Westside Motor Lounge Is Opening at Echo … – Eater Atlanta

Westside Motor Lounge, a new bar, restaurant, and entertainment venue, opens next year at the Echo Street West development emerging at the corner of Northside Drive and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in the historic English Avenue neighborhood. Echo Street West backs up onto the Westside Connector Trail, a new offshoot of the Beltline trail system.

A venture from newly formed Atlanta hospitality group STHRN Hospitality Co., Westside Motor Lounge will see three vacant automotive repair shops on the property restored to house a large indoor-outdoor bar with a variety of seating areas and a lounge centered around a courtyard offering shuffleboard, yard games, and a stage and screen.

STHRN Hospitality Co. is a partnership between George Banks of real estate consulting firm Revel and Elizabeth Feichter (Atlanta Food and Wine Festival) and Kelly Campbell of culinary consulting business Southern Culinary and Creative (Gather ‘round, Epicurean Atlanta hotel).

As for what people can expect in terms of food and drinks at Westside Motor Lounge, it appears that’s still in the works. But a press release states the team behind STHRN Hospitality Co. are “being intentional about the culinary and entertainment talent” they plan to work with here, tapping into the “culture”, “history”, and “character” of Bankhead Highway, while also “blending” with the “vibrancy and creativity” of the area.

Once complete, Echo Street West will encompass 19 acres just north of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Georgia World Congress Center, and State Farm Arena. The development will eventually feature retail, office, and restaurant spaces, multi-family housing, artist colony Guardian Studios, green space, and a hotel.

The historically Black neighborhoods of English Avenue and Vine City are home to cultural landmarks like the Trap Music Museum and historic landmarks like the Herndon Home Museum, along with restaurant institutions K&K Soul Food and Busy Bee Cafe. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his family lived on Sunset Avenue in Vine City from 1964 until his assassination in 1968. Atlanta University Center, home to historically Black colleges Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta University, borders the southern edge of Vine City.

In January 2021, the AJC reported that the Atlanta Regional Commission considers English Avenue one of the city’s “most vulnerable” neighborhoods for gentrification. According to the AJC report, Echo Street West developer Lincoln Property Company has been listening to feedback from and working with the community and it residents.

Eater reached out for more information on Westside Motor Lounge and to inquire about community outreach performed by STHRN Hospitality Co. and Lincoln Property Company.
