Columbus Italian Festival returns
The Columbus Italian Festival,presented by St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, will return Oct. 8-10.
The annual celebration of food and culture will feature children’s events, a marching band competition and a host of entertainment including Elio Scaccio with the Rick Brunetto Big Band, Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses, and the San Giovanni Dancers.
And, of course, there will be plenty of food options.
The festival will take place at 168 E. Lincoln St. Admission costs $10, or free for children younger than 12 with a paying adult.

Dublin seeking applications for $150,000 work
The Dublin Arts Council is seeking artists to apply to win a $150,000 commission to create a permanent public artwork at M.L. “Red” Trabue Nature Reserve in Dublin.
The artwork — to be the newest work in the Dublin Art in Public Places program, begun in 1988 — is scheduled for installation and dedication in the summer of 2023.
M.L. “Red” Trabue Nature Preserve is named for the Dublin naturalist, journalist and television pioneer. The 90-acre park includes wetlands, biking and walking paths, a fishing pond, arboretum, wildflower and prairie grasslands and an 1865-era log cabin.
Park entrances are at 6835 Avery-Muirfield Drive and 6566 Post Road in Dublin.

Back to School Bash on tap
Community organizations Alicia’s Closet, Fostering Love, and Stitched Together will host a Back to School Bash on Aug. 9 to support children affected by foster care.
The event is expected to serve nearly 300 children in foster care, as well as those that have been reunified with their families from foster care and children living with relative caregivers.
The event will include bounce houses, face painting, dinner and costumed princesses. Each child in attendance will receive a brand-new backpack with school supplies, a lunchbox and a gift card. Families are also eligible to receive clothing, shoes, and other children’s items from Alicia’s Closet.
