Veeze – “Small Fry”
Don’t tell Veeze, but over the last year, my relationship with his music has mostly been through Detroit rap leaks YouTube accounts. Every week or so a new low quality Veeze leak will be uploaded even though the rapper himself has only put out a handful of songs. Surprisingly, he threw three new tracks on his SoundCloud page last week, and my favorite of the bunch was “Small Fry.” Weaver, who most recently was behind a few of the standouts on Duwap Kaine’s new mixtape, provides a twinkling piano beat and Veeze’s flow is hypnotically breezy. Veeze’s day-in-the-life raps are simple yet memorable, and they contain quotable punchlines: “I used to be runnin’ out of money, nigga nowadays I ain’t runnin’ out of nothin’.” It’ll hold me over until the next YouTube upload.
