Bizzy Banks – “Genesis”
It’s a shame the rollout for Bizzy Banks’ new mixtape Same Energy didn’t include a tour of all the hottest radio freestyle shows in the country. The East New York standout’s charisma won’t jump out at you on social media or in interviews, but he comes alive when he raps without structure. “Genesis” is a haywire mix of stop and start flows and punchlines that put wordplay above depth: “I might just slide do the cha-cha/Cucaracha, bust a move then we aiming at his māthā/Send a frank, no Sinatra.” It’s so much fun (even with the intensely brooding drill production) that it needs to be recited alongside a cackling Sway or Charlie Sloth or really anyone with access to a mic and camera.
With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
Check out previous Ones, and listen to new rap from Bizzy Banks and more on our Spotify playlist.
