KiMi Robinson is The Arizona Republic’s entertainment reporter – The Arizona Republic

KiMi Robinson joined The Arizona Republic as entertainment reporter in November 2019.

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, the Loyola Marymount grad and multi-fandom enthusiast — who can discuss at length the merits (and demerits) of the “Twilight” franchise, Taylor Swift, One Direction and other pop culture icons — has built a beat centered on emerging entertainers, influencers and celebrities. Her first name is pronounced “key-me,” and the capital “M” in her name signifies the two Japanese characters that make up her name.

Before moving to the Valley, she was assistant correspondent for the LA bureau of Kyodo News, where she worked to grow and elevate the Japanese news agency’s coverage of pop and Asian American culture in the States. Robinson previously interned for NBC Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter and Truthdig, where she reported on local news, the entertainment business and politics, respectively.

During her time at The Republic, she has reported on Arizona’s evolving but not always inclusive influencer community, why learning to make boba tea at home was a source of comfort during the pandemic and how a Gilbert salon became a TikTok meme.

She has also interviewed a number of reality TV personalities, including Mackenzie Dipman (“Love Island”), Demar Jackson (“The Bachelorette”), Joey Sasso (“The Circle”) and Joey Jay (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), to shed light on their off-screen personas.
