I am an impulse shopper who writes about shopping for a living and has surprisingly few regrets. I know what I like when I see it, and I know what I will be upset about not buying. But there have been a handful of times where I sat on a purchase and the item promptly sold out, and I’ve spent months — sometimes years — agonizing over them.
One of those items is a pair of Rolla’s corduroy flare pants that Bella Hadid wore to a Kacey Musgraves concert back in October 2019. I was obsessed with her outfit instantly because my friend, Kim Shui, designed Hadid’s top, which I own too. Even though Hadid’s pants cost under $100, for some inexplicable reason, I didn’t purchase them. They sold out in my size days later.
I think about those pants often, especially since corduroy is having a moment right now. And just when I thought I was over them, I saw a photo of Irina Shayk wearing a pair of jeans by Rolla’s while out for a walk with her daughter in New York City. Shayk’s Rolla’s were more standard: a simple pair of sun-bleached jeans ripped at the knees that cost just $109.
There’s a lot of discourse about denim right now, and if you’re not sure which jeans you’d like to try, Rolla’s is the most cost-effective way to test-drive some styles. There’s a wide-leg jean, a style that’s been favored by Katie Holmes, for just $46. If you’re strongly opposed to the skinny jean slander, Rolla’s has a pair of classic skinny jeans for $99. Or, if you’re trying to blend in with Gen Z, there’s a loose pair of jeans for $50. If you’d prefer to avoid any and all things 2021 and, say, time travel to the ‘70s, there’s even a pair of flares for $50.
While I still regret not buying Bella Hadid’s Rolla’s when I initially saw them, at least I know better now. To make up for it, I’m just going to go ahead and impulse-buy a couple.
