FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — This rainy weekend has actually been a plus for indoor entertainment centers like arcades, which could reopen at full capacity for the first time since the pandemic began.
Fun and Games in Framingham could open at full capacity for the first time in over a year this weekend.
“This weekend has been a big difference, a lot of people have been coming in a lot of people have been coming in that we haven’t seen in awhile,” said Michael Tolson, one of the managers.
Tolson says for the last year they followed CDC guidelines by slowly increasing their capacity limits since they reopened last fall, and now that Massachusetts has lifted all COVID-19 restrictions, arcades and entertainment centers are finally seeing a much needed boost to business.
“It’s great to have a lot more normalcy, the plexiglass is down from both counters, the games aren’t spaced out like it’s back to normal,” said Collin Whitney, one of the managers.
The managers say if you’ve been vaccinated you don’t have to wear a mask inside, but you still can if you feel more comfortable.
“Just being out without a mask and knowing that most people are vaccinated is wonderful,” said Kelly Drummy, who brought her daughter to Fun and Games Sunday.
There was a sigh of relief among a lot of families, venturing out for the first time in over a year for some indoor activities on this rainy weekend.
“We’re very happy to be out especially with a young child,” said Drummy.
While business is getting back to normal, some protocols will stay in place, like providing hand sanitizer stations throughout the arcade, and employees are still constantly disinfecting the machines.
“There’s a lot of benefits of the pandemic, makes us more cautious, allows us to keep the games more sanitized and everything,” said Whitney.
The managers say the best part about the changes this weekend is reconnecting with customers face to face.
“You can actually see their smiles and that’s been one of the best things for us to see familiar faces smiling and happy to be in here,” said Tolson.
