Symphony Guild hosting 2021 ball

The Amarillo Symphony Guild is hosting its 2021 Symphony Ball at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 15, at the Amarillo Country Club, 4800 Bushland Blvd.

Enjoy dinner and dance until midnight along with Party Machine a premier Dallas band, at this black-tie event.

Yellow Rose Festival Dance set for May 15

The TopTex and Club square and round dance Yellow Rose Festival Dance is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, at the Danc’n Center, 2223 S. Polk St.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. will be the request rounds with James Novak. At 8 p.m. will be the Grand March with Jerry Gilbreath.

Stoney LaRue to play at Starlight Ranch

Stoney LaRue makes his way back to Amarillo on Saturday, May 15 at the Starlight Ranch, 1415 Sunrise Drive. Opening will be Logan Samford.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

This will be an outdoor show with limited capacity. 

For LaRue, who has sold more than 1 million albums and singles in his career, fun means being on the road and playing live, tapping into a vast catalogue that includes influential LPs like 2005’s “The Red Dirt Album” and his 2007 live document “Live at Billy Bob’s Texas.” Now, he’s excited about taking “Onward” to fans around the country and reminding them that not only is he still here, he isn’t going anywhere.

General admission individual tickets are $15 (plus fees) and VIP tickets, which include VIP admission for one guest, a private viewing area, expedited entrance, a cash bar, limited edition lanyard and a private restroom, are $40 (plus fees). Some preferred table seating is also available for $20 (plus fees) per ticket.

Lone Star Ballet presents Academy Unleashed

Lone Star Ballet will present Academy Unleashed on Friday, May 21, at 7 p.m.; Saturday May 22, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 23, at 2 and 6 p.m., at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.

Students will be featured in ballet, tap, modern, jazz, and hip-hop numbers that highlight their work during the school year.

Shane Smith & The Saints to perform at Starlight

Shane Smith & The Saints are scheduled to perform Saturday, May 22, at the Starlight Ranch, 1415 Sunrise Drive. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

This will be an outdoor show featuring special guests. 

Since releasing their last prior album, 2015’s “Geronimo,” the Austin-based, five-piece group has plunged ever deeper into their adventure as a touring band. Hundreds of shows a year in more than 40 different states and on three different continents, including visits to Ireland and Malaysia, have brought them to the 10 stormy tracks that make up “Hail Mary.”

This is an all-ages show, but those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

General admission tickets are $15 (plus fees); VIP tickets are $35 (plus fees); deck table seating is $85 (plus fees); and preferred table seating is available for $20 to $35 (plus fees).

Symphony presents Bach cello suites

The Amarillo Symphony will present “CMA – The Complete Bach Cello Suites” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens,1400 Streit Drive.

Featured will be Jeffrey Lastrapes on cello.

Bairos, symphony to present Mahler

The Amarillo Symphony presents Bairos conducts Mahler 4 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 4-5 at the Globe-News Center For The Performing Arts, 500 S Buchanan St,

Join Maestro Jacomo Bairos, the orchestra, and guest soloist, Brandie Sutton, for a performance of Gustav Mahler’s ethereal Symphony No. 4. 

The last movement of this symphony describes a vision of heavenly life, brilliantly portrayed by the orchestra and soloist, and experienced by the audience of the Globe-News Center.

Read Southhall Band makes Starlight debut

The Read Southall Band is scheduled to make its Starlight Ranch debut on Friday, June 4. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

This will be an outdoor show with limited capacity. 

Born and raised in the heart of Oklahoma, Read Southall brings a unique sound to country music. Growing up listening to everything from Hank Williams to Johnny Paycheck led him to fall in love with the soulful stories behind country music.

The young artist quickly used these influences to find his fit in the genre. Read started performing in choirs and local bands at a young age, and at age 22 he began performing as a solo artist.

General admission tickets are $20 (plus fees); VIP tickets are $30 (plus fees); and preferred seating tickets range from $20 to $35 (plus fees).

Celtic Throne to perform Irish dance

Celtic Throne is scheduled to perform at 7:3o p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.

Created by Herbert W. Armstrong College and Armstrong Dance, with original new music from Golden Globe-nominated composer Brian Byrne, Celtic Throne celebrates the dramatic and mysterious origins of Irish dance.

“Infused with innovative choreography, dazzling costumes and spectacular lighting and projection, Celtic Throne follows the millennia-long journey of a music-and-dance-loving people as they migrate from the ancient Near East to Ireland, Scotland, England and the United States,” according to the website celticthrone.com
