Live and livestream entertainment picks: Eddie Griffin, Church of Cash, Dre Day, 600 Highwaymen – Minneapolis Star Tribune

Eddie Griffin

Friday-Saturday: The former “Undercover Brother” star may not be the draw he was 20 years ago, but those eager to laugh may treat his time in the Twin Cities as if Chris Rock were paying us a visit. Organizers are freeing up 250 tickets per show, which should make it the most attended comedy event in the state since the start of the pandemic. Local comic Adrian Washington, whose no-holds-barred brand of comedy has a lot in common with the headliner’s style, will host. (7 & 8 p.m. Fri.-Sat. Lumber Exchange Event Center, 10 S. 5th St., Mpls. $45, showtimeconcerts.com.)

Church of Cash

Saturday: With its spacious layout and a sizable base of regulars old enough to be fully vaccinated, the Medina Ballroom has gotten an early jump on hosting live music indoors again. This weekend brings in the Twin Cities-based, road-tested Johnny Cash tribute band led by baritone-voiced Minnesota music vet Jay Ernest, with Carter Family-like harmonious sibling openers the Jensen Sisters. (7 p.m. Sat. Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Hwy. 55, Medina. $23-$33, medinaentertainment.com.)

Chris Riemenschneider

Dre Day: 4 /20 Edition

Tuesday: A reprise of the 19th annual February birthday tribute to hip-hop’s most legendary producer Dr. Dre — this one timed to the April 20 holiday honoring cannabis — the livestreamed show from the Hook & Ladder Theater will feature the live band G Funk Error backing rappers Chance York, D Mills, Tek and Nur-D through a playlist including Dre’s “Chronic” cuts, Snoop Dogg and Tupac classics and lots more. (8:20 p.m. Tue. $4.20, thehookmpls.com.)

‘A Thousand Ways (Part Two): An Encounter’

April 22-May 2: Part One of 600 Highwaymen’s “A Thousand Ways” was a phone call. Participants were paired up for an intimate conversation facilitated by a recorded voice. For Part Two, the New York-based company is taking it in-person, placing pairs of ticket buyers on opposite sides of a table separated by a pane of glass at Walker Art Center. You’ll have index cards, a few props and instructions to get you through it. Be prepared to get vulnerable and journey to unknown places with a stranger in this risk-taking performance that pushes audience participation to the edge. (5, 6:30 & 8 p.m. Thu.; 2:30, 4, 5:30 & 7 p.m. next Fri.-Sun. Ends May 2. Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Mpls. $25, walkerart.org.)
