Lisha G – “Real”
Unless you’re like me and enjoy a surprise, you might want to turn the volume knob down a notch on Lisha G’s “Real,” or the unexpected eruption of gun shots might pierce your eardrums. That unnecessary but welcomed noise is a signature addition by New Jersey curator DJ Phat, and it fits the chaotic mood of South Carolina’s Lisha G. Lisha likes to rap over beats that could have once landed on an early Raider Klan mixtape, and the Splashmane-produced “Real” is no different. The producer’s twinkling melody sounds like it could backdrop the part of a ’80s slasher movie where the protagonist has no idea that they’ll soon be fighting for their life, and the drums are vicious, too—they would probably make my room shake if I had a proper subwoofer. It’s perfectly suited for Lisha’s spellbinding melody: “If you scared go to church, don’t be thinking that you real,” she raps amid the terror.
