Double-cast, self-aware musical to close season for WT Theatre

CANYON — Eight student actors will play the creators of a musical, characters based on the creators of that musical and, in a very real sense, themselves in the next theatrical production from West Texas A&M University.

WT Theatre will close its season with the musical “[title of show],” written by creators Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell in 2004 for the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The WT production will feature two casts in video-on-demand performances April 8 to 11.

The show is considered to be rated R for strong language.

Tickets, which can be purchased at showtix4u.com/events/wtamutheatre, are $15 for individuals and $30 for families, or free for WT students, faculty and staff.

Cirque Italia at Starlight Ranch April 8-11

Cirque Italia: Silver Unit’s traveling water show will make a stop by the parking lot at Starlight Ranch Event Center, 1415 Sunrise Dr., April 8-11. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Cirque Italia has designed for two traveling water shows – Silver Unit and Gold Unit – a stage that holds 35,000 gallons of water that performers dazzle over while thrilling the audience with every move. With this unique feature under the tent, guests will be surprised, for it’s a show of its own!” reads the Cirque Italia’s website.

Starting with its creation in 2012, the Water Circus has advanced into one of the most innovative traveling shows to be staged in the United States.

Amarillo book sale to be held virtually April 10

The Amarillo Public Library is planning to hold the April Friends of the Amarillo Public Library Book Sale virtually on April 10.

“While we are thrilled with the improvement in Amarillo’s COVID numbers, a crowded basement book sale still seems risky, so our April sale will be virtual,” reads a post on the library’s Facebook page. “If you participated in our sales in September or December, you know how this works.  At 9 o’clock on the morning of April 10, we’ll post a link on our Facebook page that will take you to a Google Drive folder of photographs of the shelves in the sale area. When you see a book you’d like to buy, send an email to Stacy.Clopton@amarillolibrary.org detailing what you’d like to purchase.”

Interested buyers should list the title of the work, as well as the category and number of the photo. The cost will be $1 for mass-market paperbacks and $2 for everything else (hardcovers, trade paperbacks, audiobooks, and DVDs)

Orders will be filled on a first-come/first-served basis. Patrons will receive an email when their your books are ready to be picked up at the Downtown Library. “Because everyone will be looking at the same photos, there’s a chance you won’t get every book you request, so your email might read something like, ‘We found 7 of the 10 books you requested. Your order is waiting for you and your total cost is $12,'” the library notes.

Emails will be accepted until midnight on Sunday, April 11.

Clarendon drive-in hosts TobyMac, Cochren & Co.

A drive-in theater tour featuring TobyMac with special guest Cochren & Co. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the Sandell Drive-In in Clarendon.

This is a live concert and the artists will be performing live on stage, as well as projected onto the screen after dusk.

All tickets are sold on a per car basis with a limit of six per car, regardless of age.

Cars will be parked in the order they arrive in their respective zone. Oversized vehicles such as large vans, buses, and motorhomes are not permitted.

Be prepared to show your ticket (either printed or on mobile device) to be scanned.

Food and beverages must be exclusively purchased at the concession stand.

The stage will include a sound system, but the sound will also be supplemented via an FM radio frequency.

Tickets are $250 per car for platinum parking; $175 per car for gold parking; $125 per car for silver parking; and $88 per car for value parking.

Crockett’s new album “Welcome to the Hard Times,” is perhaps even more potent proof of his literal heartbreak than the scar on his chest. This is an all-ages, family-friendly show. Guests younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult and masks are required by all guests upon entry.
