‘Right Now’–A New Music Video From a New (Old) SoHum Rap Duo – Redheaded Blackbelt – Redheaded Blackbelt

Nectar Gods, a SoHum rap duo, put out this lazy, sunny music video filmed on the North Coast.

Tree and Pounds (yep, that’s what they go by) met in Shelter Cove about 15 years ago while they were in high school and quickly became best friends.

Tree explained, “We discovered we both shared a love for making music and that we grew up listening to the same music and idolizing the same artists and thus had similar influences. We started making music together on the most cheap amateur recording set up possible…a webcam mic with a rubber band holding a paper towel on the tip to muffle the p’s and such & the basic “sound recorder” program on an old Dell.”

They’ve upgraded both their equipment as well as their style and sound since then, Tree told us.

“We really just made music for fun but always day dreamed of one day releasing a legit music video and making some noise in the Sohum rap scene but life always got in the way one way or another,” he explained. “We always idolized the local rap scene and wished that someday we could be a part of it. Elision, Mika Sun, B Swizlo, Subliminal Sabotage, Garth Vader, Potluck, Just One; these guys were our heroes growing up in Southern Humboldt County.”

Tree said, “Eventually Pounds became a local DJ going by DJ Pounds and started DJ’ing at events and venues all around Humboldt which led him to becoming good friends with many of the local musicians whom we had so looked up to.”

The local musicians encouraged the two to follow their dreams and keep making music.

“Some years later we have decided to finally take the step and release our first music to the world,” Tree explained. “[W]e just dropped our debut music video “Right Now” and have multiple other new videos already in the works which will all be soon to follow as we attempt to make a little bit of noise and stir up the Sohum music scene a little bit.”
