Open for Entertainment with Lake Country Builders – Midwest Home Magazine

Revamping an old home requires creativity, and this Wayzata two-story was no exception. “Our clients were a growing family of five who purchased this house knowing they would need to remodel. The existing main floor was closed off and cramped with dark wood floors and cabinets, a small kitchen, and a tucked-away dining room,” says Patrick Jacobson, the executive vice president of Lake Country Builders.

The project goal? Open up the first level for entertaining while creating a fresh, contemporary space where the family could be together. In collaboration with Windmiller Design Studio, an addition to the back of the house made room for a spacious kitchen, a generous walk-in pantry/prep kitchen, and lots of natural light thanks to big windows and a large glass door that offers easy access to the backyard.

Lake Country’s solution to open the previously tight entryway, where they removed the staircase wall and installed a custom railing, was nothing short of creative. “The beautiful stair rail our own carpenters built onsite is one of my favorite details in this house,” Jacobson says. “It allows light into the space and echoes the contemporary feel throughout.”
